Where did it all Start?

We are a family friendly martial arts club, led by Sensei Graham Fountain (Qualified ESKA Instructor) who has been honoured with the opportunity to run the English Shotokan Karate Association (ESKA) Stevenage club by Chief Instructor Hanshi Michael Nursey (9th Dan and  Head of the Association).

Sensei Graham runs the juniors and adults class on Mondays and Thursdays (18:30 - 19:30).   Hanshi Nursey continues to run the higher grade classes at ESKA Stevenage (Mondays 19:30-20:30).

The instructors are fully qualified, DBS checked, hold valid first aid certificates and have full public indemnity insurance.  We encourage both juniors and adults to train at the same time to allow families to exercise at the venue together. The style of karate we practise is Traditional Shotokan.

ESKA STEvenage instructor

Sensei Graham Fountain began training in 2014 with his eldest son at the Stevenage Dojo (Honbu Dojo - Head training facility) under the instruction of Hanshi Michael Nursey, 9th Dan (ESKA Chief Instructor).

Awarded black belt by Hanshi Nursey in 2018 and qualified as an Instructor under the ESKA Coaching Foundation (led by Sensei Stones, 6th Dan) he went on to teach at both Stevenage and Knebworth clubs.

Over the years other members of his family (wife, four children and two nieces) have joined his karate journey.  Having competed in many ESKA tournaments he has achieved 1st place in Kata, 2017 and 2018.

With great drive and determination, Sensei Graham has continued to train hard and in November 2021 was successful in grading for his Nidan (2nd Dan).

On the same grading day, he took great pride that his eldest son Lucas and niece Charlotte both qualified for their Shodan (1st Dan) Black Belt.  An emotional and intense day but well worth it!

Both Lucas and Charlotte are integral members of ESKA Stevenage performing club warm-ups and supporting fellow karate-ka in their journeys.  They continue their quest into the ESKA coaching program with a view to teaching at ESKA Stevenage.

In 2021 Sensei Graham was honoured with the opportunity to run the ESKA Stevenage Club with assistance from fellow Karate-Ka & extends a warm welcome to you and your family...
